i had such a joyful morning.
school mission was fun, as... expected.
it always has for the past 3 years!
4 Hum, Sin, Cha and Dil went to nativity church centre this morning.
Father Quek and Tom was there too.
we played a sort-of warm up game.
there were 3 characters: the bear, the hunter and the old woman.
the bear> old woman > the hunter > the bear (> means greater than)
sort of like scissors paper stone.
4 hum+ sin= one team, 4cha + dil= one team.
we had to go in a group to the center of the hall and do the respective action(for the characters)
those who lost risk getting caught and they join the winner's team.
1st- round: those with specs.
we had more nerds. lol i mean more ppl with disadvantaged eyesight. so our group was larger. we won because we all did the ''hunter'' while they all did the ''bear''
2nd round- the girls.
all the girls had to go and vs the other team. meanwhile, we formed a human chain, such that if the girls were to lose, they could not come back to ''home base'' because they will be blocked and get caught. well, they lost. after 2 draws. and some got caught.
3rd round- the SLs.
lol our side had the exco. so we formed another human chain and Russell jokingly said all of us will get detention... haha. they lost and they ended up catching Clifford and SZ among many others.
final round- everyone. hilarious round, we all decided to do dragonball power blast ( arrrlluuugggannnn) (something we created). lol, somehow, when we did it, the other side was frightened because the whole crowd surged foward and we ended up chasing them. and no, i was not chasing them, i was laughing so hard that i was out of breath.
then 4hum saboed Val up to the stage. lol'. he underwent vasodilation in his face. Tom asked what he wanted to be when he grew up and val replied: a lawyer, reason: able to send ppl to jail and make money doing so.
and subsequently, Tom kept referring val as the lawyer.
then we saboed him again for the ''SIA interview'', a person from each class was chosen and they had to answer a question. val's was asked: what attribute should woman learn from men.
fionella was asked: what would you like to see a change in, in singapore?
and she did state a very good point of our education system. Kudos to her!
a bomb blast victim also shared his experience with us, it was frightening and he talked about how he survived it using his strong willpower and his prayer to god. he had 47 degree burns and went through 15 operations after which he went into coma for 15 weeks, or was it 5 months? amazing. eventually, he miraculously survived and his son also accepted him although he was covered in scars. i was really touched by the story.
Tom talked about two really good examples of patience and service in the community. one was the SIA flight stewardess and the other; passengers aboard the bus in new zealand.
we had a break afterwards whereby hotdog bread and packet drinks were distributed.
i shared the otah bread (which i packed along) with YX because both of us were hungry and we played Monopoly card game together with Snowman. each of us won once. i did not know a game could end in a suprising 5 mins...
then we played the ''crumble'' game. awesome. we had to put a finger in our partner's palm while a story was told. each time the word ''crumble'' was said, he had to try grab out partner's finger.
Ms Winnie shared with us her story of her daughter which she had lost faith in because her daughter lied to her and she had the mindset since then. but she regained it after she pondered on her decision and tried to believe her daughter, eventually they trusted each other. Tom explained that we should not act impulsively and do some metacognition (thinking about thinking) before we act. this will allow ourselves to make truly right decisions in life.
a video was also shown about a boy born without arms, remembering his father's words which were ''do not give up and only you can do this'', he became a guitar player who played the guitar with his feet. amazing. he became a source of enlightenment and encouragement to many and even played for pope john paul the 2nd. whom of course, praised him.
father quek later prayed for us as we shut our eyes. he prayed for our studies and our spirit and health. i almost slept. sry its true ...
and the school mission ended. i wrote a very long reflection in the end because this was possibly the last one i'll ever get to attend. i wrote on the entire side of the paper : x
and from what i've learnt today.
- never give up on yourself, no matter how painful it is to hold on to life
- must have hope, the willpower and courage to face adversities
- learn to be independent
- think deeply before one acts, impulsive decisions lead to bad outcomes
- must have courtesy, bus drivers are doing us a service by transporting us around to our destination
- each and every one of us has a spirit within, even lawyer val, so we have to respect one another
- the human spirit is strong, everlasting
- learn to have more patience
thank you to the ppl who shared their life stories, they're very inspiring.
