today maybe the last day i'll ever where the HIHS school uniform ever again.
because, today's the NYJC orientation.
And NYJC will be my 2nd home for the next 2 years :D
1st day of orientation
morning:
took circle line to Lorong Chuan. saw throngs of students, many from other schools going to my destination.
surprise! first familiar face after i walked through the gates was HuiHui's.
could see Melvin Tan..... nowhere.
then Yanyin and some others from HIHS also came along, but i was the only guy.
went hall before 7.15 to join my group. no HIHS ppl in mine, but still happy to meet some new friends.
lol, the camp MCs were like super weird, they intro themselves and started super lame jokes.
eg:
why did Sam throw the butter out of the window?
because she wanted to see the butterfly.
and don't remind me of the char siew bao joke...
first cheer i learnt:
N (clap*), Y (clap*), JC (clap*)x2 (and repeat)
paid $33 for goodie bag which included a really cool looking shoe bag, an NYJC towel, orientation camp t-shirt, NOVA tribe t-shirt(thats the name of my orientation group), school badge to pin on shirt, school orientation badge to pin on bag, and for some reason, a $5 popular voucher.
the morning talk on subjects and subject combination was important but uber boring, with no SH to wake me up, i tried my best to stay awake. and i did, hurray.
ice breaking was next, played trees and squirrels, which was fun and met my first new friend whose name is Qi En, correct me if im wrong.
did cheering later, but our group was a little shy and not too enthu. going through orientation makes one feel like a kid.
tour of the school was next. and it really was just a walk around the school.
afternoon:
after lunch, if you really want to know what i had... which was chicken rice. (i can't believe most of the food is $2 and below with the exception of western set meals). canteen vendors were very helpful and friendly. i still miss HIHS chicken rice and western meal.
changed into HIHS PE attire and went to hall. our group; NOVA5 btw, was dispatched to station games with several others.
first was Jacob's ladder. quite fun but i accidentally kicked my senior who is my OGL ( orientation group leader?) in the face, wargh.... but he says its ok and laughs. i said sorry, so pai seh...
then we did try a couple of cheers, tried my best to be super enthu. voice became a bit hoarse after that.
and the bad thing was, we did not know and couldn't remember the lyrics, so we ended up with only a couple of cheers we could break out into.
2nd friend i made was chao win, correct me if im wrong again.
who was from my primary school, class R10..woohoo. i was in R9 btw.
went to another station game where we had to tap cards with alphabets or numbers in the correct order in the fastest time.
went back hall for mass dance after that. lots of groups also gathered there. we were all taught the dance. and most of us became so confused in the beginning, not knowing the right moves. we were also paired with the opposite gender, and that's when i found out that 40% of my group was boys. again, poses a great challenge because its quite hard to make friends with the opposite gender with limited topics to start a conversation.
and in the end,we learnt only the initial part. but it was quite good on the first try.
then came the debriefing, guy sitting beside me intro himself as David. said Hi! see how easy it is for guys to bond?
debrief was about tmr's trip.
released from school after 4.30pm and i took the train home.
just found out my OGL's name, he's Kelmond! and his white specs looked strangely similar to Kayyin's.
and for the entire day,i didn't even catch a glimpse of Melvin...hmmph... where did he disappear to? i was supposed to deliver a pack of tissues to him.
edit:
decided to add this after reading SH's blog post.
ARE THEY BONKERS!? $140 for a calculator?!
submitted subject comb. just now, and i did listen attentively to the teachers in the morning. ok.
most likely:
H2 maths
H2 bio
H2 chem
H1 economics
+ PW, GP and MT
2nd choice:
H2 maths
H2 physics (yes, i can't believe what i was thinking)
H3 chem
H1 geography
+ PW, GP and MT.
and Mr Nathan is HOD of arts, should meet him someday and tell him that i was his wife's student. Mrs Nathan is a wonderful teacher. yes.
