So I've reached 21, an age that signifies the coming of adulthood and maturity. It seemed like such a big thing to me when I was 10 and even more so when I was 16. It was to me, a milestone of growing up, of gaining freedom in speech and action.
But it lost its hype as I grew towards that age. Perhaps its part of growing up, of a maturing mind. Or perhaps serving national service gave me foresight. Now, I merely see 21 as another age and looking back, I've truly seen how time has flown.
Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter.
But let me say how grateful I am to have such wonderful friends and family who care about me. They make my 21 years of existence worth living. Through thick and thin, smog and dust, floods and dry spells, expensive and cheap COE prices, they have been there for me.
I hope that our bonds will last just the way it has been between my father and his friends, sharing 40 years of friendship till today.
It was sweet to have you all celebrate my birthday! I was touched to be able to eat delicious ramen after a long day in camp on Friday. The soup tasted like my tears of joy but with more garlic and pork! haha
Then the next day, I was able to meet up with some dear friends whom I've not met up in a long time. A simple meal would have been enough to make me happy. You guys had to give me a really cute cake and an awesome card. I was simply stunned with joy.
My Sis did a day's worth of chores for me, my parents got me cake and buffet. Seriously, I love you all.
7x7x7=21
When I was 7, I was still in primary school, learning how to interact with this world, learning good from bad.
When I was 14, I was in secondary school, exposed to a microcosm of society, with social and political hierarchy.
Then I'm 21, facing the world which continually challenges my thoughts, blurred lines and responsibilities abound.
I guess I'm becoming more responsible for consequences that arise from action of my volition.
My Godfather told me that being young is the best time to make mistakes and to slay the monsters that hinder your thoughts and speech.
I have slayed many monsters within me. I have gotten many scars from these fights but emerged stronger.
On a lighter note, I am bound for great things this year! For exploration and discovery!
That's why I have a plan for my future! I guess? Yes indeed I have! Trust in me I must!
Thank you all for wishing me a great day. I indeed enjoyed my day
and will do so for every other day.
